My Boy Is Dead - Demos 2000-2005

DVR025 - new release from Digital Vomit

My Boy Is Dead was a project of which Solypsis was, and is, one half. They recently ended their 3-year hiatus, but while we wait for fresh material, here is a selection of tracks from their first run. Dirty beats, filthy synths and defiantly unhip movie samples. What's not to like?

Solypsis - Epilogue, Vol. 1

HE! Extra - released by Eardose

James Miller says this is his final release as Solypsis, ever, and this time he means it (Vol. 1?). Future output will be under a different name to be determined later. (I do plan to issue further, now-"posthumous," compilations from the massive DVD-ROM Purge, and James has authorized this.)

So. It's a nice way to wrap things up, incorporating all the disparate bits of the story so far. There's the dark melodicism of, say, the Cyan Album, a dash of the uncompromising noise of The WLNT Sessions, and the masterful use of tension and release exhibited in One Week Without the Internet, all together in a coherent, mature, well-produced whole.

I can't wait to see what's next.

Grey Ear, White Noise - The Lift

HEMP048 (Part 1)/049 (Part 1 - Instrumentals) - new releases
Part 2 & Part 2 - Instrumentals released by Setting Sun

The risqué spoken-rant/electronica duo is back with a double album made up of 4 EP's. This time the rants and rambles stretch out over long, grooving tracks for a more laid-back but still thoroughly entertaining experience - and if blue language isn't your thing, there's always the instrumentals, which make for hypnotic listening in their own right.

Thee Crumb - Thee Crumb Tapes

HEMP047 - new release

"This selection, culled from three years (2004-06) worth of offcuts, sound experiments, lost songs and general oddities, was originally going to be made available as a limited edition of 50 C-40 cassettes but was shelved before ever being revealed due to problems with dubbing such a quantity of tapes without proper equipment. This is the reason the two completed tracks both last 19 minutes and 54 seconds as they were originally designed to fit onto two sides of a cassette.

The inspiration for this project (both in the nature of the album itself and in the less-than-slick mixing - no Ableton Live here!) is clearly The Faust Tapes, although the precise ordering of the pieces was decided by assigning every section a number and then drawing cards at random from the major arcana of a tarot deck." - Thee Crumb

Grey Ear, White Noise - Introducing... (EP 1)

HEMP046 - new release

Junkshop Coyote - Industrial Lullabies

HEMP045 - New release

A series of sound-paintings depicting a day in the life of a wage slave in the American Rust Belt. Two years in the making, and another spent in limbo before plans for a physical release were abandoned. Industrial, ambient, noise and plunderphonics all figure in the mix.

Alien Hand - 2001-2004

HEMP041 - new release

Fans of Digital Vomit's Can Buy Me Love series will remember Alien Hand's very Celtic spin on breakcore. This is a compilation of his earlier works, as he explores and finds his sound, which even then was delightfully twisted....

Meep remixing V/Vm - V/Vm 365 Remixes

HEMP037 - originally released 2007

During 2006's V/Vm 365 project, V/Vm cranked out at least one track a day and encouraged others to remix them. Meep was one of those who took him up on it, and this was the result. Loud and abrasive, but there are also stunning ambient landscapes among the audio ordnance.

Thee Crumb - Rising from the Deep

HEMP044 - new HE! release, previously released 2008 on last.fm

Thee Crumb's "RPM Challenge" effort for 2008 finds him sharpening his sound and focus, cramming a dizzying variety of electronic influences into a sub-genre of one. This would be impressive even if it hadn't been made in a scant 29 days. Includes a bonus track not found on the original last.fm download (not to mention hi-fi bitrates).

Thee Crumb - Intentional Distortion

HEMP036 - originally released 2007

Thee Crumb is a relatively new face in the Digital Vomit collective, whipping up a mixture of diverse sounds like 90's analog IDM, noisy glitch and hyperactive drum-n-bass into something utterly individual. He often participates in the RPM Challenge, in which artists create an album from scratch in a single month. This is the fruit of one of those efforts.

Ascoltare - Gallery

HEMP026 - originally physically released in 2006 on Dubble as DUBBLE 003

"5 tracks - all over 7 minutes in length continue as with the other cd-r dubbel releases in using 'found' vocals (ahem !) and sonic clicks, beats, and industrial clangs. sometimes a melodious section is provided for a welcome respite, for example the opening of 'on a natural charge' and shows that the ghost of etheral ambient is never that far away, however rather than letting the blissmood last for 74 minutes (a la fax releases in 1994) the distortions and electronica distresses are soon brought back into focus. the track also features a scary effect ridden odb vocal while the industrial noises do their midi'd thing in the background. making for a totally fascinating 7.5 minutes." - ireallylovemusic

HEMP025 - originally physically released in 2006 on Dubble as DUBBLE 002

"'Mutiny In Stereo' is like some slow motion drug that works its way through your blood stream, gradually taking control of your system. Ascoltare vs. Keith - Drugs

HEMP024 - originally physically released in 2004 on Dubble as DUBBLE 001

"[Keith]'s 'Drugs' is the main source material for Ascoltare Vs. Keith (Dubbel MCDR001). But Ascoltare (aka Dave Henson of Gwei-Lo) employs a glitchy, kucky musical production style that is paired with Mr Keith's vocals in a way that makes for a nice trash compaction of anything that might seem melodically familiar. At any rate, the presence of text gives the proceedings more open flow than most glitch orientated noise. And the packaging is really pretty nice. The CD is packaged in a plastic case that's held inside a small zip-loc bag that has what one assumes is some benign substance masquerading as drugs proper. Its something of a long short that I'll ever be blasted enough to sample it, but maybe you're made of stronger stuff, pard." - The Wire (April 2004)

Distance - Off the Cuff 2

HE! Extra - released on Hicc Records

Distance - Off The Cuff

HE! Extra - released on Hicc Records

'Off the Cuff' is the first in a series of albums by Distance and also to follow in the future by other Hicc Records (including DIH, M.A.N. etc) which highlight the band's ability to remix and in some cases de-contrast other artists altogether.

Some of these tracks will have been released previously, some of them haven't but all certainly in the case of 'Distance' for example their ability to change frequently a original song to such a degree it is impossible to recognize in it's original form. - Hicc Records

Notes about reissues

A few folks have asked about my M.O. for HE! reissues. I am releasing the back catalog of each artist in the order of original label appearance, including any pending new releases. Here is the queue as it stands right now. Asterisks (*) indicate artists with new releases.

Finished:

Junkshop Coyote
Solypsis *
Various Artists *

Forthcoming:

Burnt Bacon, Right?
Keith Hic
1bomb1target
Justice Yeldham and the Dynamic Ribbon Device
Distance *
DIH
Big In Albania
M.A.N.
I Could Do Better Than That
Ascoltare
Thee Crumb
Meep
Alien Hand *
Scandinavian Noize Syndicate *

This assumes that the artists don't beat me to reissuing their audio elsewhere (as was the case with the Minimal Impact/M.A.N. remix, for example), which they are quite welcome to do - its availability is what matters most to me. Send me a link, and I'll be glad to plug it.

Any new artists who supply me with audio to release will be added to the end of the queue. Thank you for your patience as I get things back up to speed. I have a full-time day job, a spouse and a house - my time for this is finite, but I do my best.

You might also ask, what is going to happen to the mix sets? Well, I'm going to figure that out once I get all the proper releases back up - first things first. If nothing else I can stick them up on a file sharing site, like a typical music blog, but I'm considering my options.

Thanks for reading, now back to the music....

In late 2007, Solypsis decided to step back from several years of feverish productivity and reinvent himself, but not before he and Junkshop Coyote put together this collection of material from the cutting-room floor. From the sublime to the ridiculous to the punishing, whatever you like about Solypsis, you'll find it here.

This album was intended for release last fall, but was delayed due to Hallo Excentrico! 1.0's problems with its web space provider. This completes Solypsis' back catalog on HE! Reissues of other artists' back catalogs will be uploaded in order of original artist appearance on the label.

Solypsis - Hell Precursor

HEMP038 - originally released 2007

Solypsis - OCD

HEMP035 - originally released 2006

This double-virtual-CD follow-up to the well-received One Week Without the Internet is a sprawling exploration of rhythm, noise and uneasy atmospheres; a worthy expansion on its predecessor.
