Minimal Impact vs. M.A.N. - Narnia (Full Length Remix)

Originally released 2006 as HEMP032 - Now available from Hicc

Edited version appeared on HEMP021, M.A.N.: Narnia Remixes

Original version appeared on HEMP019, M.A.N.: M.A.N.

Minimal Impact transforms M.A.N.'s spoken-word/IDM track into a 60-minute ambient soundscape. In Hicc's words, "more of a state of mind than actual music."

Solypsis - The WLNT Sessions

HEMP013 - originally released 2006

In 2006, a project was proposed to create the "World's Longest Noise Track." Various artists were approached to contribute pieces of a planned sound collage of a full week's duration. The project was subsequently abandoned. This is a selection of audio Solypsis created in real-time with the intent of incorporating it into that project. Lo-fi bitrates are intentional.

Solypsis - One Week Without the Internet

Originally HEMP033 - now available at Vukzid

What do you do if you're moving house, and can't get online for a week? If you're Solypsis, you make an album - and a tour de force at that. All the elements of his style - noise, ambience, crushing rhythm and jagged melody - come together with crackling power on this set from last year.

Placate - Derelict

HE! Extra - new release from Eardose

HE! recording artist Solypsis is one-half of Placate, along with fellow Digital Vomit collective member Datarapist. This is their first collaborative effort, and has been some time and drama in the making. It combines Solypsis' rawness with Datarapist's finesse and somehow manages to diminish neither. Re-posted here to help spread the good word.

Junkshop Coyote remixing V/Vm: Red Carpet Narcissism, Vol. 1

HEMP028 - originally released 2006

For each day of 2006, as part of the V/Vm 365 project, V/Vm uploaded at least one free track of audio, and encouraged other artists to remix them. I took him up on it, and this album is the result.

Junkshop Coyote: Selected I-Am-Bent Works, Vol. 1

HEMP001 - originally released 2005

Hallo Excentrico!'s inaugural release is now HE! 2.0's inaugural re-release. A compilation of some of the best (or worst, depending on your point of view) of my "playing with sound" output from 1985 to 2005, encompassing everything from old-school ambient to plunderphonic noise.

Hallo and Welcome... Back!

At the risk of boring those who already know this...

I founded the netlabel Hallo Excentrico! (named after a track by the group Neu!) in March 2006 so I could bypass the mainstream media and make my music directly available to the public for free. I also passed this opportunity on to my colleagues in the Digital Vomit collective, and anyone else I came across who made interesting music and wanted it.

In October 2007, my web space provider forced me to shut the site down because I could not produce copyright and/or contract forms that proved I owned the rights to the music. Neither I nor any of the artists on the label had considered these trappings of the capitalistic entertainment industry worth the bother. We opted for "hippie law," Creative Commons licenses, and the artistic possibilities of appropriation. We weren't doing anything wrong per se, but we couldn't prove it, and apparently several gigabytes worth of free MP3's made us guilty until proven innocent in my ISP's eyes.

My online friend, the infamous experimental musician V/Vm, suggested I re-invent the netlabel as a "music blog." After some consideration I have decided to do just that. Hopefully it will be interesting and fun for you, and low-maintenance for me. I'm not getting any younger. ;)

At this moment I am making arrangements for new, more artist-friendly storage accommodations for the audio, and when that's squared away, I will resume releasing challenging new music free for the downloading - as well as re-issuing the 40+ releases in the HE! archives.

If you make music and would like to be a part of all this, I invite you to e-mail me at mhilton at indy dot rr dot com (yes, there really are two "dots" in there). If you send audio along, please use YouSendIt or a comparable remote file host - please don't attach it to the email.

Like the song says, the best is yet to come....

EDIT: HE! was started in 2006, not 2005. Fixed accordingly.
